“NOW I LAY ME DOWN TO SLEEP”

“Now I lay me down to sleep

To close my eyes

To find my dreams.

If I do they’ll let me stay

So mommy don’t you cry, okay?

If by dawn my eyes won’t rise

You’ll know I’m home and safe inside.

So now I lay me down to sleep

If I wake up

In tears I’ll be.

Again another day I’ll face

‘Til I can close my eyes and say,

Now I lay me down to sleep

To close my eyes

To find my dreams.

If I do they’ll let me stay

So mommy don’t you cry, okay?”

—Terry Moore, Strangers In Paradise (v.7), “Sanctuary”

They miss the whisper that runs any day in your mind, ‘Who are you really, wanderer?’ and the answer you have to give no matter how dark and cold the world around you is: ‘Maybe I’m a king.’
William Stafford
Reveal the dragon thro’ the human; coursing swift as fire
To the close hall of counsel, where his Angel form renews.
William Blake, “America: A Prophecy
One need not be a chamber to be haunted,
One need not be a house;
The brain has corridors surpassing
Material place.
Emily Dickinson
